You can provide support for the next Fred who shows up at our doorstep. Fred came to Lutheran Social Services of Southern California(LSSSC) because his wallet was stolen. That theft of Fred’s wallet may have been the last straw, but it wasn’t the real reason he ended up on your doorstep.

Fred’s young son had died and the grief was eating him up. He was depressed, angry, and frustrated. He felt totally lost and ended up living in a motel struggling to make ends meet. During Fred’s time at LSSSC, our staff helped him deal with his emotions. Slowly he began to address the grief.

He became a resident volunteer, working in the kitchen, which gave him something positive and productive to focus on.

After, a few months Fried’s pain was under control. He was equipped to deal with his grief spiritually and with better communication and coping skills. Fried said, “The day I left, you lost a kitchen worker, but I got my life back”.
